ARRIVAL
Golden Stairs

The Threshold on Boston Harbor.
Second only to Ellis Island, Boston was one of the largest ports of entry for immigrants to the United States, with estimates of over 6 million arrivals.
In East Boston, thousands of people were processed at facilities like the Jeffries Point Immigration Station. Many others arrived informally, stepping directly from ships onto working piers along this waterfront.
For those who came through here, this was often their first moment in the country.
